Now, we all like to look our best at all times and makeup is an essential part of that.

But there are places and activities that are not conducive to you wearing a lot of makeup and the gym is certainly one of those places.

Sometimes I walk into my gym and look around and find quite a few women especially the younger one’s going about their workout wearing makeup.

Be it a little powdered concealer or a bit of mascara. Aren’t we all guilty of wearing makeup to the gym once in a while?

All of us want to be well turned out at all times even while sweating it out on the treadmill.

But wearing makeup to the gym can be harmful for your skin.

Here are few of the issues that you can face when you regularly wear heavy makeup and workout.

1. Acne

Once you start working out, you begin to perspire and your pores open up. The makeup on the face blocks the pores leading to congestion and blockage. And this can lead to breakouts, acne and blackheads.

2. Larger pores.

A layer of makeup will lead to congestion on the skin and will open up the pores. And this buildup will stretch the pores to adjust to the blockage resulting in larger inflamed pores.

3. Ageing.

Makeup is supposed to sit on the surface of the skin and not penetrate deep into it. While working out, the body heat gets raised, letting the makeup foundation and concealer to get absorbed by the skin rather easily.

And it’s certainly not beneficial for the skin. It makes the skin actively prone to wrinkles, dark spots or discolouration.

Therefore overtime, repeatedly wearing heavy makeup and working out can lead early signs of ageing.

4. Skin irritation.

The sweat mixed together with makeup on the skin can lead to bacterial infection. And this can further lead to skin irritation and itching. It can sometimes lead serious skin allergies as well.

Therefore even if it raises your confidence and makes you feel good, wearing layers of makeup and working out is not a good idea.

Do your skin a favour by letting it breathe while you exercise.

Sometimes you just can’t avoid going to the gym straight from work or from some other prior engagement, in this case I suggest you keep a makeup removing wipe in your gym bag and use it to remove as much makeup as possible before your workout.

The whole idea behind going to the gym is to give your body a proper work over so that you not only look good physically but also feel good with high energy levels.

The gym is the one place where you should be the least conscious about your looks and concentrate on your workout instead.
