Face-masks are a quick an easy way to rejuvenate the skin and help with its concerns and needs.

Face masking can is a self-care practice where you relax and pamper yourself while the product works its way through and serves your skin with its goodness.

But a lot of times you apply the face-mask expecting to change your skin from dull to luminous but sometimes it just doesn’t work out that way.

You might start blaming the efficacy of the product but let me tell you that there is a reason why these face-masks loaded with goodness for the skin don’t work their wonders on your skin.

Applying a face-mask might seem like a simple process but this needs to be done with certain simple rules to make sure you get the maximum out of this skincare ritual.

Do it right and you will reap all the benefits of the product otherwise the whole effort goes waste.

Rules to follow by-

1.Clean your face first.

Prepping the face before applying the mask is very important.

Wearing a mask on the face with a layer of dead skin on it will leave the product on the surface of the skin instead of letting it penetrate deep and work its way through the skin cells.

It is just a waste of time and money if the mask is applied on clogged pores covered with gunk and dirt. It wont let the ingredients of the mask absorb into the skin.

Exfoliate if you must, but make sure you get rid of the layer of the dead skin cells so that the mask can work its way through.

2.Use a face mask according to your skin type.

Masks don’t go by the rule of  ‘one for all’. Rather you should apply the mask that addresses your skin type and its specific needs.

For example a moisturizing mask might work wonders on a dry skin but can louse up an acne prone skin type.

You can look for some of these prime ingredients of the mask according to your skin type –

Normal skin –Nourishing Mask (Honey Powder)

Dry Skin-Hydrating mask (oatmeal mask)

Oily Skin –Clay Mask (Kaolin clay)

Sensitive skin – Soothing mask (Aloe Vera mask)

Acne prone skin – Clay based mask (Bentonite clay)

3.Apply the mask with a clean brush.

Make sure the mask brush is properly cleaned and has no residue from the previous use otherwise the bacteria from the dirt will potentially negate the benefits of the mask.

Even if you are applying the mask with your fingers, make sure you wash your hands before doing that.

4.Time it right.

Leaving the mask on for too long doesn’t mean it will give better results.

Rather it might over dry the skin and rip off the skin of its natural oils.

Even a moisturising mask can irritate the skin if left on for too long.

The clay masks if applied for an extended time can make the oiliest skin rough and parched.

Read the instructions on the product carefully and rinse it off in time accordingly.

5.Remove it properly.

Rinse off the face thoroughly after taking off the mask with wet cotton or a washcloth to make sure there is no residue of the product left on the skin.

If the mask is not properly removed then it might lead to clogged pores or irritation, defying the whole purpose of using a face-mask.

The right face mask can help hydrate the skin; work on large pores and even exfoliate the dead skin cells.

Use the above given tips to get the maximum benefit from whichever face-mask you choose to use.
