Hair care during the rainy season becomes gruelling for everyone and the most common problem around this time is dandruff.

The reason why you might see dandruff growing at an alarming rate during monsoon season is that the fungus involved in dandruff thrives in moist environments of the scalp encouraging flaking, itching and other symptoms that go with it.

Now, here are few tips to fight dandruff around rainy season and keep your scalp clean and healthy.

1. Use an effective anti- dandruff shampoo consistently for sometime.

Make sure you stick to an anti- dandruff shampoo for sometime and not switch to a cosmetic shampoo in the process. This reduces the effectiveness of the anti-fungal actives of anti-dandruff products and might leave the scalp flaky and dry.

2. Wash your hair regularly.

Hair follicles and oil glands make an oil called sebum. Now, sebum is a breeding ground for fungus that may eventually trigger dandruff. Therefore, it’s important to wash your hair regularly, especially during monsoons when the scalp is more prevalent to infections due to high humidity and moisture.

3.Use the conditioner only on the ends and not on the scalp.

It’s important to use a light conditioner during monsoons as heavy conditioners can leave the scalp sticky thereby increasing the severity of dandruff. Also use the conditioner only on the ends leaving the scalp dry and clean especially during monsoon season.

4.Cut down on styling products during monsoon.

Styling gels and sprays can attract dust and grime during monsoons when the humidity levels are high. This may further breed ground for increase in dandruff problem.

So its better to altogether avoid using styling products if you are facing dandruff problem during monsoons.

5. Reduce your sugar intake.

Dandruff is often connected to yeast and fungal infections and high sugar promotes the growth of yeast. Also, sugar reduces the B12 levels in our bodies and B12 is an important component of anti- dandruff diet.

So its better to reduce your sugar intake and eat more of foods that are rich in B12 like milk, eggs, fortified breakfast cereals, fish etc. to reduce dandruff especially during monsoons.

Apart from these hair care tips to reduce dandruff during monsoon season, its very important that you take care of your hair health all year round by sticking to a good hair care regime and eating a balanced nutritious diet. Once you start doing that, dandruff won’t be a problem for you even in the monsoons.
