A sheet mask is a single sheet in the shape of a face, which has cut out holes for the eyes nose and mouth.

These sheets are drenched in serum based formula, rich in vitamins, minerals, hyaluronic acid etc. that tends to be much more effective than the usual serum in just one application.

The sheet is made up of  various materials like paper, bio- cellulose, fibres, cotton or hydro-gel.

These create a protection barricade for the beneficial ingredients of the mask to work well on the skin without getting evaporated, so that there is enough time for them to penetrate deep into the skin.

The sheet basically helps to maximise the treatment, making the best of the good-for-you ingredients.

The sheet masks are more like treatment masks . They have water as their primary ingredient, which helps in delivering the treatment botanical extracts and other ingredients much more effectively into the skin.

They are generally used for targeted results like intense hydration, spot treatment , discolouration, brightening, plumping the skin, luminosity and even for face lifting.

Here are 6 things to keep in mind when using a sheet mask –

1. Keep your hands clean.

Take the sheet mask out of the packing with clean fingers. Make sure the dust and grime from your hands does not interact with the vital nutrients of the mask.

2. Apply on a clean face.

The layer of makeup, dust and grime doesn’t let the active ingredients of the mask to work their way through the skin.

The impurities on the skin are trapped inside and harm the skin even more, so it’s very important to clean the face thoroughly before applying the mask.

3. Time it right.

The directions on the sheet masks usually mention the time it’s supposed to be applied for.

Usually its about 10-20 minutes .It is important to take off the mask before it starts drying up because once it begins to dry it can actually absorb the moisture back from the skin.

4. Choose your mask carefully.

Don’t go for a mask just because it’s popular with the you-tubers, they might not have the same skin type as yours.

Rather select the mask based on the skin issues you hope to address like fine lines, dullness, sagging of the skin or discolouration.

5. Pat it on the face and neck.

Once you are done with the mask, you can take it off and pat the remaining serum on the face and even some on the neck to maximise the results.

6. You can do it daily.

You can do sheet masking as often as everyday. Its nothing but an extension of your skincare routine.

The exception to this are the sheet masks with hyaluronic acids should not be used more than once a week because of its high exfoliating nature.

Also use it sparingly if you have acne prone skin as it can aggravate acne by blocking the pores.

The regular use of the sheet masks can outperform the usual benefits of the regular treatment serums like retinols and ceramides.

They are convenient, easy to apply and bring quick glowing effect on the skin.

Use them correctly and you can reap the benefits of these nutrition packed wonders for your skin.
