Summer vacations are here and many of you will have plans for a trip which entails enduring long flights to reach your ultimate destination.

The waiting time at the airport and the actual flying hours don’t only make you feel grumpy and physically tired but also takes a heavy toll on your skin making it look dull and dehydrated.

But don’t worry; it doesn’t have to be that way.

You can just take few steps and save your skin from the inflight dryness and dehydration.

1. Remove the makeup

The dry air of the aircraft pulls out all the moisture from the skin cells. It would do the same to the layer of makeup on your face and leave it patchy and flakey.

So its better to keep your skin makeup free and leave it clean for the products which are moisturizing and will it keep hydrated.

Also the layer of makeup can lead to blocked pores and can aggravate skin allergies and breakouts.

Use gentle cleansing wipes to wipe off the makeup instead of carrying full bottles of makeup removing lotions and balms.

The Body Shop Vitamin E cleansing wipes.

2. Mist your face regularly.

In order to keep the skin’s hydration levels up, spraying your face with a hydrating mist is very important.

Make sure the mist is gentle and non-irritating.

This will help the skin to get refreshed from the stale and recycled air.

3. Use a sleeping mask.

The high altitude of the plane can restrict the blood flow to the skin, which can make it appear dull and parched.

A convenient way to avoid this is by putting on a sleeping mask. There are some very good options of sleeping masks like Origins- Drink up intensive overnight mask.

These are deep moisturizing masks. They prove to be of   great benefit to keep the skin refreshed and moisturized.

4. Apply a Hydrating Serum.

As I mentioned before, the recycled and pressurized air in the plane sucks the moisture out of the skin and leaves it dry and dehydrated.

If the lost moisture is not replenished, it will leave the skin flaky and parched (especially in long flights).

A serum with hyaluronic acid works best in these conditions.

Layer your skin with a Serum high in nutrients.

It will help to rebalance the skins mode of oil production adding back the moisture and making the skin supple and soft .

5. Apply an eye mask.

Who doesn’t want to get off the flight without the puffy eyes and  those dark circles?

Sitting at one place for a long period of time in the flights can lead to fluid retention in the body. It especially shows it effects on the eyes leaving them puffy and swollen.

To avoid that, make sure you wear a light gel based eye mask.

It will help the blood vessels around the eyes to constrict and provide the much-needed therapy.

6. Reapply the hand cream.

The lack of humidity in the cabin air results in a substantial drop of hydration levels over drying the skin on hands and feet.

So its very important to keep reapplying a heavy hand cream every time you wash your hands with soap and water.

A vitamin E based hand cream would be great. Like Mario Badesco hand cream with vitamin E.

This will help replenish the lost moisture of the skin.

7. Don’t forget the sunscreen

Especially if you are on a window seat, don’t forget to apply a sunscreen.

The ultra violet rays are even more harmful in higher altitudes.

But try to use natural formulas instead of the zinc or titanium-based sunscreens like

Just using a couple of the above mentioned tips during long flights will help your skin look and feel refreshed even if the rest of your body is feeling really tired.

You may be jet lagged but it does not have to show on your skin.
