Scalp massage has been a traditional practice in cultures with older generations particularly in eastern countries starting at an early age.

The persistent hair massage with certain oils is probably good blood circulation is maintained making them less prone to breakage and loss.

Hair loss is an increased problem these days due to stress, nutritional deficiencies, and lack of exercise and increased intake of junk food.

There are tons of products available in the market to regrow hair including a variety of hair oils.

But does oiling your hair really regrow them?

Well, it does.

Here’s how it works.

Just like any nourishment to our system, oiling provides nutritional benefits to the hair roots promoting hair growth.

Good hair oil based on their properties and absorption in the scalp, when massaged to the scalp not only help to boost hair growth but also stimulates the dormant follicles of your scalp encouraging the production of new hair strands.

Massaging the scalp increases blood circulation to the hair follicles, rejuvenating the roots and conditioning the scalp as well.

This makes the hair strands thicker and stronger thereby reducing the falling and shedding of hair.

Here are 5 best topical oils for hair regrowth-

1. Coconut oil

Studies have shown that virgin coconut oil has anti-inflammatory properties for the scalp that help reverse the chronic problem of hair loss.

Coconut oil also has natural anti-fungal and antibacterial properties that promote scalp health thereby encouraging hair growth.

2. Argan oil

A native to Morocco, Argan oil has been used since ages for hair nourishment, softening and hair growth.

Rich in tocopherols, polyphenols and antioxidants, argan oil helps to fight the oxidative damage done to the scalp by chemicals and heat styling etc.

3. Castor oil

Studies show that a hormone called prostaglandin is commonly found in hair loss suffers.

This hormone is inhibited by a substance found in castor oil and has been said to increase hair growth and slow down hair loss.

4. Olive oil

One of the most popular oil for hair massage, olive oil is packed with essential fatty acids that fight scalp fungus and infections. It helps the scalp health by providing it with nourishment and moisture.

5. Avocado oil

The fatty acids present in avocado oil are good for combatting damage done to the scalp and helps visibly improve the quality of the hair.

It is also great to fight frizz and splits ends.

Though massaging the scalp with the right hair oil can be extremely beneficial, but there is a right way to do it to get the maximum benefits and not reverse the effects in the process.

The right way to do hair oiling-

1. Heat the oil before application.

Warm oil penetrates better into the scalp providing its maximum benefits and will also has a soothing effect.

Warm it in a microwave or place the oil bowl on the surface bowl full of boiling water.

Just make sure the oil isn’t too hot for application otherwise the nutrients of the oil will be damaged and you will end up burning your scalp.

2. Comb the hair before applying oil.

Massaging in tanged and knotted hair will only lead to breakage and more hair fall.

Make sure you comb out and detangle your hair before oil application.

3. Apply the oil with a cotton ball.

Cotton is the gentlest way to apply hair oil and it’s easy on the roots.

Just dip the cotton ball in oil and squeeze to remove excess oil and rub it on the scalp.

Applying the oil with fingertips can sometimes be harsh on the roots and even scratch the scalp with fingernails.

4. Apply the oil on the length as well.

Just concentrating on the scalp while oiling wouldn’t be appropriate.

The length of the hair is equally important.

Apply the oil section by section running it down on the strands also to get lustrous, healthy hair.

5. Wash the hair properly after the massage.

It’s important to wash the hair properly after oiling to remove unwanted buildup and grease.

Leaving back the oil on the scalp will only block the pores and lead to even more hair fall.

So, it’s imperative to wash the hair clean and get rid of the excess oil after the process.

Though it can be a task to oil and massage the hair, but if you are committed to regrow your hair naturally, then its best to massage an appropriate hair oil to stimulate the hair follicles to grow back thicker, healthier strands.
