The benefits of the face oils are well known for the longest time, but its only recently that they have gone popular among the biggest beauty brands.

Face oils are a powerhouse of  nutrients like vitamin C, essential fatty acids and antioxidants.

They provide protection and also give the optimal hydration to the skin, balancing the oil contents at the same time.

Contrary to popular belief, face oils are not just for dry skin, but for every type of skin. You just have to know which is the right one for your particular skin type.

The oils not only transform the skin but also help to protect it by forming a strong layer on it called the lipid barrier.

But these benefits can only be reaped if the right face oils are applied in the correct way and in the right combination with other products.

Here are a few tips about how the face oils should be used in order to get the most out of them.

1. Choose the right oil for your Skin type.

Before deciding on the oil for yourself, it is important to know that no two oils can be of the exact same nature.

These oils are naturally derived oils, therefore the chemical composition of the oils may vary due to certain factors like the geographic location of the plant grown, the age of the plant etc.

But the basic properties of these oils generally remain the same based on which they can be considered appropriate for certain skin needs.

 a.Dry Skin Face  oils

Dry skin lacks moisture because of which its  more prone to wrinkles and fine lines than the other skin types .

Face oils rich in  antioxidants and essential fatty acids help to nourish the dry skin and seal the moisture inside .

They also help to restore the lost moisture and keep the skin hydrated and radiant .

These face oils help to add up this lacking moisture further protecting the skin from  the signs of premature ageing. They also keep the skin plump by  boosting collagen production and fortifying the skin elasticity.

Some of the good  face oils for dry skin are:-

Argan Oil

Rosehip seed Oil

Maracuja oil

Sunflower oil

Jojoba Oil

Coconut oil

b. Anti Acne/Oily skin  face  oils.

Some anti acne treatment lotions and washes can remove the natural oils of the skin leaving it dry and flakey.

Whereas the face oils mentioned below which are typically for oily and acne prone skin help in balancing the oil production of the skin, clearing the skin of the excess oil and even minimizing large pores.

They are also Anti Bacterial and even Anti-Inflammatory in nature making them perfect for calming the redness of the acne prone area.

Some good oils for oily and acne prone skin are:-

Tea Tree Oil

Macadamia Oil

Cammellia Flower Oil

JoJoba oil

c. Sensitive Skin face oils

These oils help the skin to fight against the free radicals by strengthening the skin cells. They help to keep the skin calm and reduce redness.

The Antioxidants in these face oils also help to protect the skin and save it from the sun damage.

Some of the good oils for sensitive skin are:-

Argan Oil

Primrose Oil

Yangu Oil

2.The right way of incorporating the face oils in your skincare  regimen

Its best to apply the skin oils in the evening.

a.Apply the face oils in your evening skincare routine, so your skin can soak  in the nutrients while you rest and make the most of it.

Certain oils are heavy on the skin and can leave the skin greasy so it’s best to apply them in the evening .

Sometimes face oils can leave the skin ultra sensitive to the sun-rays, so its best to avoid using them in the day.

But if you’re looking for that hydrating glow then its best to wear a thin layer of a lighter oil like Macademia oil or jojoba oil which is non greasy and won’t clog pores.

These can also be used under the makeup as a glow primer.

b. Combine the face oil with your Moisturizer.

Oils are emollients, which make them sit on the surface of the skin instead of penetrating deep inside like the serums and moisturizers.

Oils work best to seal and keep the moisture inside the skin cells but won’t provide the right hydration and moisturisation just on their own.

So it’s better to combine them with treatment serums and moisturizers to further enhance their benefits and lock in the nutrients of the products.

You can mix just a few drops of your face oil to your daily moisturizer to intensify its benefits.

c. Just dab don’t rub.

The face oils don’t need to be rubbed and massaged on the skin like your moisturizers.

Just dab or pat a few drop on the surface of the skin so they get pushed into the pores.

It will help the skin to absorb the oil better and work its way through.

d. Just a few drops.

Face oils are concentrated form of nutrients, so a little goes a long way. You don’t have t o have it slathered all over the face.

Just two to three drops of oil are enough for it to deliver its benefits.

These quick absorbing, nutrient rich oils work wonders on the skin.

But the key is to find the right oil for your skin and use it in the proper way to receive all its benefits and make the most of it.
